The Cow Parade in Portland

Berlynn has been herding miniature cows for a while.  The small ones are based on life sized artist's interpretations of cows that are shown as outdoor art in different cities around the world.  The cows from the art shows are then auctioned off to raise money for children, and some of them are issued as miniature collectibles, they are what she collects in Tuolumne.  There's a much better explanation of the whole phenomenon at their web site - have a look.

Since we liked the creativeness of all the cows, Berlynn received a surprise by getting tickets to see the exhibit in Portland, Oregon.  So on an overcast Sunday morning, we left San Jose for the short flight up the coast to view the cows.  The weather there was worse than at home, its a good thing these cows are fiberglass, not leather!

We always knew that cows were herding animals, but these were stretched out over many city blocks and despite our map, we were at times surprised when we turned a corner and saw another colorful cow on the sidewalk, or in a building lobby, or on a street corner.  They all have appropriate names, scroll over the pictures to see.

We walked around for a few hours, saw about 30 out of the 108 cows, had a nice lunch and hopped back on the plane, tired but satisfied.   We would have searched for a lot more, but the cold temperature (47 degrees) and persistent rain sent us home early.

At least it is still dry in San Jose! Could I have just a little more cream please?
