Building our new pond

	Here is a picture of our pond as it existed before this weekend. We put it in almost five years ago as a test to see if a pond was feasible. Cousin Wilbert from Holland said it looked more like a bucket than a pond, but it held water, and fish and some irises and proved that we could have a pond at the Lodge!
	Jim, the contractor we hired to help us, pulled the irises out of the pond - their roots had taken over and he had to saw them apart.
	We used a little fluorescent paint on the hillside to mark out the outline of the pond and the path the new waterfall would take.!
	The excavator was delivered early the next morning, we figured we needed more than a shovel since our ground is so difficult to dig.
	Jim started lowering the bucket down the hill so that he could start digging the main part of the pond.
	He decided that he needed to get a little further into the hole in order to get the pond to the right level!!
	Berlynn and Spike were behind the scenes helping with food and iced tea!
	By the end of the first day, we had a big hole, a big pile of dirt, rocks everywhere, but it was difficult to imagine where the pond was going to be.
