Business comes to Knights Ferry

The Stanislaus River is one of the many rivers that drains the slopes off the western Sierra Nevada mountains and carries snow melt and rain to the San Francisco Bay as it winds its way down the mountains.

Some places the river is narrow and the rapids carve channels through the rocks, other places it widens but the current is still strong and the river is difficult to cross.

In the gold mining days, an enterprising businessman, Mr. Knight, ferried passengers across the river here so that they could continue to the gold fields in Sonora, Columbia and Jamestown.

In 1862, the present covered bridge was built across the river, covered so that the wooden roadway isn't effected by the elements and will last longer.
History lessons aside, commerce came back to Knights Ferry Park this day as we set up a booth at the Craft Fair to sell Berlynn's crystal bracelets.
We set up the booth together, Berlynn created a nice selection of bracelets - all we had to do was wait for customers!
She made some more bracelets while waiting for her first customers to arrive.
"Well, I'm not as busy as I would like to be, but the scenery is pretty!".
Here's the view from the booth, you can see the river in the lower left, to the right is upstream.  Later in the day, Opa and Oma stopped by and helped out, and Chris and Rebecca sold bracelets while we had lunch!
If you're ever near Knights Ferry, pull off the highway and head for the park.  It's worth the stop, the scenery is great, the history is neat, and if there happens to be a craft fair, buy something!
When the day was done, Berlynn had made a small profit, (Mr. Knight would have been proud!) learned a lot of good things about how to sell her crafts, and we all had a nice day out in the sunshine.
