There are always thunderclouds in the
High Sierra in the summer, but rarely do they reach down to our elevation.
This weekend was a lot different, as we woke up during the night on Saturday
hearing thunder in the distance and listening to the rain falling on the
deck.
Until 6 am Saturday, when lightning hit the utility
pole that feeds the house the thunder clap that "immediately" followed shook
the house and woke us up for the day.
We called PG&E on the cell phone right
away and they said a crew would be out for the repair at 2:30 that
afternoon. They showed up with three trucks - right on time -
and set to work.
The lightning blew a fuse on the transformer, they
decided to change both.
Two guys were in the bucket up on the pole, the third
got the new transformer ready and the fourth answered all my questions.
After a few minutes the old transformer
was ready to be lifted off the pole.
It was lowered to the truck from the bucket.
And the new one was hooked up to the winch and pulled
up to the pole.
A couple of connections to connect the house back to
the transformer...
...and the last connection to the 15,000 volt line and
after a 9 hour outage, our power was back on!
We really appreciate the crew that came out on a rainy Saturday to fix
everything!
