A visit to the Koi store
 |
We wanted to know more about how to
take care of the koi, Japanese carp, in our pond, so it was worth a visit to
the koi store in south San Jose. |
 |
There are rows and rows of plastic ponds with various
sized koi, it was feeding time. |
 |
They get pretty hungry, these small
ones are 5 for a $100! |
 |
They import them from Japan, the man told me the
domestic koi do not grow very large. Only about 16 inches. |
 |
Sixteen inches sounds large to me, these were all about
eight to ten inches and look bigger than the ones we have in the pond now! |
 |
Then I spotted the larger tanks and I
knew what he meant by growing them big! |
 |
When you lean over the tank, they come
right up to you - they must think they are getting a meal! |
 |
They really think they're getting fed
now! Most of these are larger than Spike, I didn't even dare to ask how much
they cost! |
 |
Back to ones that are more affordable,
these arrived from Japan two weeks ago and are eight months old.
No fish were bought that day, but I received some great
information on how to filter the pond water to get ready for some of these
guys! |
