A day at the beach in Oregon

We headed out at daybreak on Friday morning and pointed the car north. Before 7 in the morning, we were across the Golden Gate Bridge!
Mom and Dad were going to visit Steve,  Martine and Tegan who were vacationing at Gold Beach in Oregon. This trip was the last part of their anniversary celebration. (When you're celebrating 50 years, you can do it as long as you want!)
To surprise them all, we thought we'd drive up to be with the family.

Spike is a good traveler, but every once in a while he likes to sit up front!

We covered the 450 miles in nine hours of driving and when we arrived in Gold Beach we surprised everyone!
Oregon beaches stretch on for miles and miles. Early morning is a great time for a walk along the water.
If you've been following our stories for a while, you know that Berlynn loves to make sand graffiti!

Here she wrote our names in the sand.

Tegan walked ahead to warn Berlynn of the incoming waves. She wasn't afraid of getting her feet wet.
The Oregon coast has a lot to offer, here's Highway 101 and the Patterson Memorial Bridge across the Rogue River.
A Heron was taking advantage of a half sunken boat to look for some lunch!
But the beach kept drawing us back, here are some kids playing in the surf.
And here's our kid, digging in the sand! This was Spike's first trip to the beach, and he loved it!
It was a quick trip though, and on Sunday we headed back, stopping for a break at Mount Shasta.

Oh, in case you're wondering? 1,435 miles round trip!
