Going on a "Fresh Sushi Journey"

Turn the speakers on your computer up and please sing along with us, as we head out in the car:

Gonna take a Fresh Sushi Journey
Gonna set my tummy at ease
Gonna make a Fresh Sushi Journey
To renew my need for seaweed.

My car's got gas, we made a reservation,
Spent each dime I could afford.
Like a child in wild anticipation,
I long to hear that "Sake for four!"

Seven... that's the time we eat, at seven
I'll be waitin' up at heaven,
Countin' every grain of rice and fish,
Up-on my dish.

Never thought my tummy was so yearny.
Why is there no sushi at home?
Gotta take that Fresh Sushi Journey,
Valley Springs is where we've gone.

Like most things, there's a story behind this story. Geoff, one of our actor friends, met Berlynn, Sara and Rebecca in San Carlos last week for dinner. They went to a local Sushi restaurant!

Of course, Geoff came in the following day bragging about how good it was...

Naturally I started craving fresh sushi and inlike my Pulled Pork craving earlier this summer, it's not easy to make sushi at home.

On a recommendation from a co-worker, we headed out for the best sushi in the Mother Lode one Tuesday evening...

Valley Springs is not in the middle of nowhere, but you can see it from there!

After just over an hour of driving we arrived at the Good Friend's Chinese Buffet and Sushi restaurant.

Obviously Good Friend's had another life as Pete's Cafe, and tile work is expensive to do over!
But inside, there were no signs of Pete's Cafe, green ceiling molding, pink walls, pictures of cranes and the obligatory fancy chandelier!
Geoff had no problem digging into the buffet, the food was good and we all agreed that it was worth the drive.
Berlynn had one more potsticker for the road and soon we were on our way home with very happy tummies!
