Researching Henry Wright

This time we are on our way to Palm Springs to scout out locations and story ideas for the Henry Wright Mystery series. For a variety of reasons, we haven't been away for almost two years, so a week doing research for the books in one of our favorite cities is a nice break.

Something unusual greeted us when we got close. Snow on the San Jacinto mountains! Sorry about the glare, this was taken through the car window.

We're staying in a bungalow that used to belong to Carmen Miranda. I'm sure Rex Thornbird would have been happy to get his hands on this place. (If you don't know what I'm talking about - click on the DesertDreaming link on the left and start reading For Sale in Palm Springs!)

As with most places in this part of the city, it doesn't look like much from the front.

But the backyard sure makes up for it!
There are photos of Carmen in the bedroom, and of course a Carmen Cookie Jar on the kitchen counter!
Berlynn and Spike wasted no time in checking out the pool. Spike is very daring by jumping on one of the pool floats and riding around.

We haven't gone out much - except to get some groceries - otherwise we're staying put, wondering what Carmen Miranda was doing when she lived at this house.
We did go out and find Ladera Circle. This is the house where Elvis Presley honeymooned, May 1st of 1967. It's a pretty spectacular place set in a neighborhood of spectacular places.

I took this picture for Jack - he knows who I mean.

By Wednesday night we were finally ready to go out. Our favorite La Taqueria restaurant was closed, we missed it. We had dinner at another place on Palm Canyon, the food wasn't as good and the waitress made sure that I wore my blue margarita in my lap!

But any outing isn't complete without looking in a store - so we had fun that evening anyway...

The little wedding chapel where we were married five years ago is just around the corner. I think she looks happier now than then! (If that's possible) We both agreed that we'd do it all over again!

Rain greeted us on Thursday morning, which was ok since we needed a break from the sun. We just hope that our trip up the tramway will be worth it!

We have plans for the rest of the week. We need to ride the tram, (Mystery on the Tramway was written without me ever seeing the thing!) go to the zoo, check out Pioneertown, find some of Henry's favorite restaurants - yes sir, the IRS won't have any trouble with us this week!
