Mother Lode Fair

This year the folks at the Mother Lode Fair asked me to help them with their ticketing system. Of course, when they open at 6 am, that means you have to be there. It turns out that the hog judging starts at 7.
Don't ask me what they look for in a hog - the guy in the blue shirt was the judge and he was too busy for me to ask. I'm actually still wondering what the difference is between a hog and a pig...
One pig, eh, hog - got away from its handler and decided to check out some interesting stuff on its own. I'm not sure if this disqualified this particular hog or not. It's not like an obedience trial for dogs.
What do hogs do when they're not on the runway modeling? Well, like any other supermodel, they nap, snack and socialize!
The Fair has cattle too. I was told that these are not cows, they're cattle. Hey, I grew up in the city - cut me some slack! These guys are waiting for a cattle call!
This little guy was taking it all in and seemed very content.
Berlynn grew up on a goat farm, so I decided to take a picture of some cute goats that I found.

When I got home and showed her my beautiful photos, she told me these were sheep! (I think I got fleeced!).

We went back in the evening, I had to do a little more work and we ran into some of the Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat cast. Not wanting to try the Fair's mobile body piercing studio, we decided it was safer to eat a deep fried Twinkie. Even Danny enjoyed the mini donuts!
Walking further along the midway, we spotted this refreshment stand. We didn't buy anything, I just thought the lights looked cool.
Then on our way back to the animal exhibit we spotted Danny on the YoYo ride. The rest of the Joseph cast was there - Lulu is right in front of Danny.
Ever the performer, Blake (Joseph) shows us his form while racing through the air.
On to the animal exhibit, the hogs (and cattle) were sleeping, but the goats were awake. This little Nubian goat naturally took a liking to Berlynn.
In fact she was affectionate and climbed the fence to get a little loving.
Of course Berlynn was happy to oblige.
One of the cattle (could have been a steer, I couldn't tell by the face) woke up long enough to look over the partition to see why the neighbors were making so much noise late at night. We apologized and quietly went home.
