Game Room - Part 2
 |
Jerry G. came over at 7:30 on Saturday,
September 1st, to help out. We tore out one old garage door, a lot of trim and
lumber that was no longer needed and by 10:30 we were at the lumber yard.
Unfortunately, I left my camera in my car which Berlynn was using. I took
this picture of the lumber yard guy loading Jerry's truck with my cell
phone. |
 |
When we got home we worked as a team
and quickly turned lumber into framing for the first window. Jerry measured
while I cut the wood on the chop saw.
The Tyvek moisture barrier clearly
shows the outline of the garage door, while Jerry finishes measuring for the
new window opening. |
 |
For some reason, we decided to do this
on a day when the temperature reached 100!
Berlynn kept us supplied with
cold water and cranberry juice which really quenched our thirst!. |
 |
The window was in just after lunch and
we started putting the siding on so that the space wasn't open to the
critters that night. |
 |
Here's how it looked at the end of that
day. Siding covers the opening, and where it doesn't, the moisture barrier is in
place. Tomorrow, the second door will join the first! |
 |
We also tore out the
old single pane uninsulated window and will install the new one first thing in the morning. We covered the
hole with plastic until the next day. |
 |
What a trooper! Jerry was back at 8 the
next morning and it took only about 45 minutes to put the new window in. |
 |
Then we really went to work! (That
means I didn't have time to take pictures of the process.)
But, by late
afternoon, the French doors were in, the siding covered that hole, and
suddenly the garage was a garage no more! |
 |
Here's the look from the outside. Some
caulk, paint, a couple of new lights and no one will ever know that this was
once a garage. |
 |
Monday was Labor Day and Jerry and I
rested. Tuesday evening after work I went back at it and installed the rough
electrical. We added a bunch of outlets under the new window. |
 |
I took the night off on Wednesday and
Krista and I had a nice meal at the Diamondback Grill in town. (Thanks
Krista, I like the Daddy/Daughter Dinner!)
Thursday after work, I went at it until
after dark. We reused the trim around the old window and I milled new trim
for the French door. (Trim is made out of redwood and is expensive - you
can't always reuse it since it breaks when you take it off.)
Friday night - I'll install the
insulation! (That's not going to be a lot of fun...) |
