Kona, Hawai'i

Through vrbo.com and a colleague at work, we were able to rent a house in Kailua-Kona on the big island of Hawai'i for a week.
We were up early the next morning, Hawai'i is three hours earlier than the West Coast and watched the sun come up onto our backyard pool.
When you're up this early and haven't been grocery shopping yet, the easiest thing to do is go into town and get some breakfast.
The best thing is eating Loco Moco by the side of the Pacific Ocean.

It looks messy, and is, it's rice, covered with a hamburger patty, then fried egg smothered in gravy. Very yummy.

It's good to get some exercise after such meal, here's the seawall along Alii Drive.

.

Then we went to the Hilton Waikoloa where Berlynn had a date with the dolphins.
Berlynn had the experience of a lifetime! Here she is petting one of the dolphins' belly.
We drove up on the side of the volcano to a beach further up the island.
This beach along Mile Marker 69 is one that only the locals seem to frequent. No wonder, it is a beautiful spot.
Just as happened every day, a little after twelve, the clouds started rolling in and we headed back to the house.
Alii Drive in Kailua-Kona with the clouds overhead. The clouds are actually a result of Vog. A phenomenon that is the result of Volcano Fog. As the lava from Kilauea flows into the ocean it creates steam, which forms its own weather system.
When it rains in the afternoon, you can watch the tv in the house, or take a small nap, or watch the clouds roll by.
The gecko in the kitchen is pretty entertaining as well.
There are beautiful sunsets viewed from the lanai. The mountain in front of the sunset here is Maui.
We had a great time, we'll certainly be back to Kona one of these days.
