Palm Springs Weekend

So Palm Springs is sort of kind of more or less on the way home. Well, maybe not really, but it isn't THAT far from San Diego and certainly worth a short detour.

We're renting a house in PS for New Year's and decided to drive by and have a look to see what we were getting.

We looked over the fence and saw the backyard with the chaise lounges, pool and spa just waiting for us to return.
A short six weeks and we'll be back to start 2009!
We found a nice sushi restaurant right on Palm Canyon - good food.
I had to try out my close-up lens capabilities on this hibiscus.
And on this one - though I have no idea what it is. I call it "unknown red flower".
Once again the moon was still up when we got up - here it is about to disappear behind the San Jacinto Mountains.
We've started a tradition of having breakfast at Sherman's Deli on the way out of town. Great lox and bagels!
Still trying my close-up capabilities, I call this "still-life at Sherman's".
We had one detour on the way home from the Southern California wildfires.
At one point, a fire chopper was flying in formation with me. He's a lot closer than he looks here in the pic!
We could actually see the flames, but it didn't slow us down too much. We arrived back at home after driving 1,100 miles in about five days!
